India Business Seminar in Aqaba

Embassy of India. Amman in cooperation with Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) organized an India Business Seminar, “India Surging Ahead” in Aqaba on Wednesday, 13 December 2017. H.E. Dr. Emad Hejazeen, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Commissioner of ASEZA was the Chief Guest on the occasion. M/s. National Real Estate Company, Jordan assisted in coordinating with businessmen in Aqaba from various fields of industry to attend the Seminar. The audience members represented small and medium enterprises in the fields of heavy industry.

Shri Ranojit Chatterjee, Second Secretary (Commerce) and Head of Chancery welcomed the guests on behalf of the Government of India and Ambassador of India to Jordan. The guests were informed of the various investment opportunities in India and how the Jordanian businessmen could benefit by selecting as their business and investment destination.

H.E. Dr. Emad Hejazeen from ASEZA expressed his happiness at the intiative taken by the Embassy of India to reach out to businessmen from Aqaba. Expressing his hope that both sides could learn from each other, he warmly recalled the successful “Incredible India” initiative of the Government of India calling it as focused not only towards tourism sector but in a way depicting the potential India had to offer in various fields of trade and business. He welcomed wholeheartedly the recently set up Indian-owned company M/s. Sidney Apparels and welcomed all future Indian businesses to take advantage of unique investment opportunities in Aqaba.

Eng. Sharif Kamal, CEO of M/s. NREC thanked Embassy of India for the initiative taken and renewed his company’s commitment to enter into business ventures with Indian companies, offering them every possible opportunity to set up businesses in Jordan. He also announced a visit to India in this connection to connect with Indian businessmen and sought guidance from Embassy of India for the purpose. This was followed by an Economic Division presentation, “India-Surging Ahead” by Shri Puneet Ghai, Attaché (Commercial) in the Embassy. The presentation was very well received by the audience who were impressed by the investment and business opportunities offered by India to prospective investors from Jordan.

This was followed by a Q&A Session in which Mr. Ranojit Chatterjee answered queries of the audience members. M/s. Sidney Apparels a recently set up Indian-owned company in PBI Industrial Zone in Aqaba shared their experience of receiving full support of Jordanian authorities to set up their business. Mr. Mamoon R. Qusous, President and COO of PBI Industrial Estate in Aqaba called for greater cooperation between Jordanian and Indian businessmen and made a request to Indian businessmen to look to Aqaba as a gateway for wider world market.
