Procedure For Applying  Indian Citizenship

The Citizenship of India can be acquired under any one of the following provisions of the Citizenship Act, 1955:

1. a) Citizenship by Birth, Section 3
2. b) Citizenship by Descent,Section 4
3. c) Citizenship by Registration, Section 5.
4. d) Citizenship by Naturalization,Section 6
5. e) Citizenship by incorporation of territory, Section 7

Application can  be made online at https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Home.aspx. Once the online application is submitted, an ‘Internet File Number’ is generated automatically and this number is to be preserved for printing of the online application and for status tracking. Applicant needs to submit the duly signed / self attested hard copy of the computer generated application form and supporting documents in original with two copies to the  Embassy personally.
