H.E. Anwar Haleem

Ambassador of India to the

Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

Ambassador Anwar Haleem assumed his assignment as Ambassador of India to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on 01 August 2019.

A career diplomat, he joined Indian Foreign Service in 1991. His initial postings were at Cairo (1993-95); the UAE (1995-99) and Jeddah (1999-2002) following which he was deployed as Deputy Secretary / Director at the Ministry of External Affairs, India, handling Sri Lanka, Latin America, SAARC and Gulf Desks. In his capacity as Joint Secretary at MEA in New Delhi, he was posted as Deputy Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) (2010-14), and the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), Digitisation work, before taking over as Senior Directing Staff (Foreign Services) at the prestigious National Defence College, New Delhi. In April 2019, he was promoted as Additional Secretary to the Government of India and designated as the next Ambassador of India to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Born on 24 April, in Lucknow, India, Ambassador Haleem did his initial schooling in Lucknow, India and pursued Bachelors and Masters degrees from the Lucknow University. He also holds a Masters degree from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in International Studies and is a distinguished JRF Scholar, M. Phil in the Disarmament Division, School of International Studies, JNU. He has completed MBA in Finance and Bachelor of Law (LL.B.). He represented India as member of the National Defense University, Washington.

With expertise in global issues and strategic neighbourhood modules, Ambassador Haleem has guided more than 36 theses on various subjects of security and strategic significance. He has also been conferred with honorary Professorship. He was the Editor of Hindi magazine “Gagananchal” published by ICCR and also the Editor of “India Quarterly” magazine. His published works include, “Innovation and Technology Transfer” by McGraw Hill.
