Study in India India’s higher education system is the third largest in world after China and the United States. Education in India is provided by the public sector as well as the private sector, with control and funding coming from three levels: central, state and local. The main governing body at the tertiary level is the University Grants Commission (India) which enforces its standards, advises the government and helps coordinate between the centre and the state. After passing grade 12, students may enroll in general degree programmes such as bachelor’s degree in arts, commerce, science or professional programmes such as engineering, law or medicines etc. India has 54 central universities, 425 state universities and 377 private universities and more than 33,000 colleges. Some institutions of India, such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institte of Science and Indian Institute of Managements (IIMs) been globally acclaimed for their high standards of undergraduate education in engineering. EdCIL India Limited, a Public Sector Enterprise under Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India (www.edcitindia.co.in) is the nodal point for education in India. 3. There is a growing interest among Jordanians in pursuing high education in India. At present, there is no agreement between the two countries on education matters except for provision of scholarships, under the Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP) which is currently being negotiated. 4. India is committed to sharing its developmental experience with Jordan through capacity building programmes under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme. Government of India has offered 26 slots to Jordan under the ITEC Programme in 2021-22. Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) also offers five annual scholarships to meritorious Jordanian students for higher education in India. The Jordanian students have been fully utilizing the training opportunities offered under the ITEC programme and the ICCR’s scholarship. The number of Jordanian alumni of Indian universities is over 2500. 5. An agreement was signed between the Amity University Online, India and the Talal Abu Ghazaleh University in 2015 paving way for access to online higher education on a range of streams. Under this agreement, the Amity University Online, India agreed to provide a total of 33 online courses in different fields including four Bachelor degrees; nine Masters degree, 17 Executive certificates/courses and three Foreign Language Diplomas. 6. An MoU was signed by the University of Petra, and the Amity University, Uttar Pradesh (AUUP) in 2015 that would enable these Universities to work together to achieve their goals of cooperation and exchange in all academic areas of mutual interest including development of collaborative teaching and research projects; exchange of students, research and teaching personnel and organization of scientific research and related activities and would also enable them to expand the basis for friendship and educational exchange between India and Jordan. An MOU between University of Jordan and ICCR has been signed in 2018 for setting up of a Hindi Chair at the University. 7.
